Lot 481 Winchester Model 1895 .30-40 Krag #47212
Winchester Model 1895 lever-action rifle chambered in .30 US (30-40 Krag). Manufactured in 1904 in New Haven, CT. This was the first Winchester rifle to feature as box magazine allowing the rifle to chamber both military and hunting cartridges. The 1895 was the last of lever-action rifles designed by John Browning, featuring a rear locking bolt, and is considered the strongest lever-action rifle that Winchester ever produced. The Winchester 1895 was the choice of the Arizona rangers as noted in all their historical articles. This rifle has the rare 28" tapered barrel, smooth curved trigger, checkered hammer spur, blade front sight, adjustable sporter rear sight, crescent steel butt plate, and 5 round fixed box magazine. The bore is a little dark with decent rifling. The wood is fair with normal handling marks on the forend with no cracks or chips, the buttstock also has normal handling marks, but it shows cracking around the receiver. The lever-action is strong and the lock-up is tight. The metal finish is in the white, and shows areas of brown patina with a few scattered spots of rust.
